Polly & Paul

Residing in Christianstead with her husband Paul, Polly has lived in Newark for more than 20 years. Prior to taking on her career as a volunteer, she obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and worked for two decades in sales and marketing for a local property management and development firm, where she handled several large accounts in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Caring about green spaces and sustainability, Polly also spent the last seven years at Longwood Gardens as a volunteer and gardener.

Following in the footsteps of her grandfather who was a two-term mayor in South Dakota, who advocated to change injustices and improve the City’s infrastructure, Polly has been an engaged community leader in Newark for decades. She currently serves on the City of Newark's Community Development/Revenue Sharing Advisory Committee and is developing the Greater Newark Area Interagency Council. She is a board member of the Newark Senior Center and is a member-elect for the Newark Day Nursery and Children's Center. Polly is an active member of the Newark Morning Rotary Club, Delaware Nature Society, Newark Arts Alliance and First Presbyterian Church Newark.

Good Neighbor Day

Polly has a genuine and contagious philanthropic spirit. She has volunteered with various non-profits, including the Newark Senior Center's Meals on Wheels, Newark Empowerment Center and Val Nardo's Needy Family Fund. For her leadership as President of the Newark Area Welfare Committee, Polly was a 2013 Jefferson Award recipient.

Growing up in a university town in Iowa City, Polly experienced the many opportunities that happen with the synergy between a university and a town–from the arts and culture, to the lectures and research, to the collaboration and economic development. Polly knows that stronger town and gown relations will strengthen both entities collectively to create a richer quality of life to the City’s residents.

“Polly is knowledgeable, hard working, personable and strong. She will always go the extra mile for her constituents. She has the perfect blend of caring and toughness to be a great and effective Mayor for our City.”
–Tim Boulden, former 23rd District State Representative
