As an engaged community member, Polly has been championing the City of Newark and its residents for years. Polly sees the role of Mayor as being the face of Newark–for residents, businesses, the University and our county and state government.

Economic Development

Concerned about economic development.

Polly believes we need to foster smart economic growth within the City by attracting new, high quality businesses that will provide employment opportunities as well as broaden and diversify the City’s tax base. As a community, Polly believes we can work together to attract sustainable businesses to fill our empty storefronts throughout the City. By working with our citizens and the City’s Planning Board, Polly believes we can establish a viable master plan for Newark that works hand-in-hand with our economic development goals.

Economic Development

Connected to our community.

Polly has worked to build a collaborative network in Newark. She believes we need to develop more transparent relationships within our community, including with the University of Delaware and our local and statewide elected officials. Polly wants to work on ensuring stakeholders are good neighbors by improving communication with the Delaware Economic Development Office, UD and our county and state representatives to give the citizens of Newark a voice in the development of the STAR Campus. Having grown up with a father who was a distinguished political science professor at the University of Iowa, Polly knows first-hand the value of having strong town and gown relationships and hopes to once again formalize that partnership.

Economic Development

Committed about quality of life for everyone.

Polly has worked tirelessly to maintain and improve the quality of life for all of those in Newark. With a background in landscaping, Polly believes we can leverage our green spaces by continuing the development of our parks and recreation facilities as well as our walking and biking trails. Through encouraging volunteerism and leveraging our non-profits, Polly knows we can better help those in need and solve our growing homeless problem. Finally, Polly wants to continue to grow the traditions that make Newark a City we all love with events like Taste of Newark, Community Days and so many others.

“I have known Polly through the Christmas Food Basket Drive with the Newark Area Welfare Committee.  She is a dynamic and organized lady who is a natural leader!”
